Member of the Month May 2017

June 15, 2017

We would like to announce Armando Tamargo is the member of the month for Lincroft First Aid and Rescue Squad.

Mr. Tamargo joined the LFARS back in 2013 and is currently serving as Engineer for LFARS for 2017. He drew the short end of the stick and was assigned the task of making sure our rescue truck is ready to go at a moments notice. He has spent countless hours up at the Squad participating, hanging out and completing his engineer checklists. On June 29th the Lincroft First Aid Squad participated in the Hometown Heroes Night with the Trenton Thunder at Arm and Hammer Park. Our member, Armando Tamargo, was able to throw out a ceremonial first pitch. We at LFARS are grateful that Armando joined the Squad along with all of his hard work and dedication.

1. How old are you?

25

2. How long have you been a member of LFARS and what year did you join?

I started volunteering here in Lincroft in 2013. Funny story, actually- I had just moved into the area, and I was headed to class at Brookdale. I saw the LFARS suburban at the post office. I met Jim Kelly, and Nick Grippo that morning. I started that week and never looked back.

3. What are your favorite parts of being a member of LFARS?

There's a real sense of community, everyone hangs out both at the building and outside of volunteering. It has been a great way to make friends after moving into town. Second is the professionalism. We're a busier volunteer department, answering close to a thousand calls for service. The other EMS agencies in the area have commented on how well we work, and how well trained our members are. Lincroft FARS is lucky to have a very well equipped rescue apparatus. I've been tasked with being the Enginert responsible for making sure that all the maintanence is performed, and the tools are well maintained. It also gives me an opportunity to help oversee the training of members, and become Rescue Technicians who are able to respond to all manner of emergencies in the Middletown area.

4. What are some of your favorite hobbies?

I love to race sailboats. A few of the members here enjoy it, too. We've had a few trips out on one of the guy's boats! I also play for the Monmouth Rugby Football Club. Our home games are played right here in Lincroft, at Thompson park. It helps having a guy on the first aid who can bring an ambulance to the games!

5. What do you do for work?

I split my time between working as a paid EMT in Middlesex county, and working for a Counterterrorism non-profit as a research analyst.

6. What is your ideal vacation?

If money is no object? I'd like to take some of my buddies to the Caribbean and charter a big sail boat. We'd go island hopping, snorkeling, suba diving, fishing, and eat our catch as we make our way through the islands!

7. What made you want to join LFARS and why do you answer calls?

I enjoy the opportunity to teach. Volunteering gives me a way to help younger members and newer EMTs learn the lessons I've had to learn while working in a busy urban/suburban system. I guess you could say that medicine is in my blood. My grandfather was a physician for many years and helped to instill the importance of service in me. I answer calls because it's important to give back.
